Infant, Child, and Family Therapy
It is my observation that children of all ages, from infants to adolescents, carry a spark of the extraordinary deep in their bones, in their souls. But sometimes they forget that gift.
We've seen that over the past few years, our young people have been subject to all sorts of trials while bearing disruptions to school and family and social relationships. Throw in the sometimes disorganizing and dizzying encounters with social media, it's no wonder that recent research demonstrates soaring numbers in stress, anxiety, and depression.
We in the community - parents, teachers, therapists, and mentors alike - must work to remind them of their extraordinary, that place within them that is the unique and an imperfectly perfect expression of the Divine. They can remember and be able to participate in what Dr. Lou Sander called an experience of "mutual delight." To delight in being in relationship - with friends, with family, with the world at large.
This process often needs some help and some structure at times in a therapeutic alliance - helping to guide the rewriting of narratives and linking the past with the future to create meaning and possibility in the present.
I offer my thirty years of experience working with infants, children, adolescents and families to foster that experience of mutual delight. I am a Fellow with the Napa/UC Davis Infant, Child, and Family Mental Health program and a Board Member with the California Association of Infant Mental Health. I bring years of experience with developmental assessments and somatic work as a physical therapist. I have worked extensively with couples and families who are navigating loving and raising a child with a disability.
I enjoy working with adolescent boys and young men - working with traditional therapy models while creating ceremony and ritual programs specifically tailored to the client and their intentions. I am also keenly interested in supporting fathers and fostering their participation in fathering, partnering, and family life.
